OCTOBER 22: ELECTION DAY
Whatup my peoplez? Despite a crushing workload and scads of domestic
responsibilities, I have managed to squeeze out this modest update.
As you all know, election day is upon us, and it is time to take
those extra moments to pay close attention to all the enlightening
local political advertisements that appear to be dominating the
airwaves. I don't know about the rest of you, but I honestly saw
an ad for some guy running for deputy sheriff or something four
times tonight while watching "the Practice."
Now, while we are not exactly a politically charged website,
we here at CasaJP have decided to throw the entire weight of our
endorsement to Al Gore. The reasoning is this: without Al, we
would have no CasaJP. We would have no Peanut Gallery. In fact,
we would have no Internet.
But, seriously, the real reason we should all vote for Al Gore
is that we don't want the country run by a stammering, stuttering
Republican. I mean, a well-spoken Republican is bad-enoughlook
what at what happened in the 80's. Just try to imagine good old
"dubya" having to think on his feet when dealing with
other, better educated foreign leaders. They'd have him for lunch.
I mean he can't even handle David Letterman for crying out loud.
Another good reason to vote for Gore is that he was not the captain
of his cheerleading squad, nor was he involved with cheerleading
in any way. We, here at CasaJP, have to draw the line somewhere.
Also, it must be said that George Junior's waffling on the whole
drug thing is really beyond reproach. I mean you either did snort
blow or you did not snort blow. I mean really, which one it is?
I don't care if you could have passed the strictest FBI background
check for smack back when your dad was president. That is the
kind of bullshit waffling we'd expect out of Clinton ("depends
on what your definition of 'is' is"). If you are going to
stand for the moral and self-righteous values that Republicans
claim to represent, then ante-up and honestly tell us if you did
some toot, for the love of Budha.
OK, enough of my Tocquevillian outsider's view of American politics...
on with the Casa. We only have one new item at the Casa this week:
THE OTHER END OF NOWHERE: A MANHATTANITES
GUIDE TO THE OUTER BOROUGHS
As promised, another installment of the Manhattanite's
guide to the outer boroughs. This time, Wade Nacinovich (with
an 'i' not an 'e'), has given us an insider's look into South
Asian cinema and an unlikely place to find the latest Hindi cinematic
masterpieces--the Eagle Theater in Jackson Heights Queens. Go
to THE OTHER END OF NOWHERE.
